Isn't it amazing how many computers are used to re-create the Middle Ages? The SCA-Geeks list is for general discussion about technical topics related to the SCA.
The purpose of this list is to allow techies in the SCA to discuss topics that are fun for us but off-topic for most other SCA lists, and of little interest to most nontechnical SCA folk.
This list is intended to be operating-system agnostic; we all have our preferences, but this is not an advocacy forum. Share your tips and ideas about whatever hardware and software you prefer, or ask questions. Opinions about different systems are welcome, in response to questions about "what should I use?", but please keep the tone civil and professional.
Techie humor is quite welcome. Job postings and job wanted notices are also welcome, as long as they are for a technical field. Virus warnings, however, are off-topic for this list. There are many other venues to obtain such information. In the words of Monty Python, chain letters and glurges are Right Out.
To prevent virus propagation and rude use of large attachments, this list filters content to remove most binary attachments. Posted messages are limited in size; if your message exceeds the limit, it will be held for moderator approval (which will normally be granted, if there is a legitimate reason for the large message -- we just want to check these individually).
Archives are public for this list; don't say anything here that you do not wish to share with the world.
Posts are unmoderated, but the list owner reserves the right to delete from archives any content that, in his sole opinion, is patently pornographic or obscene, is blatantly commercial, or which may violate copyright or libel law.
Nota bene 1: Your first post to this list will be held for moderator approval. This prevents spammers from using the list to distribute bulk email. Once it is established that you are a legitimate subscriber and not a spambot, you will be allowed to post without moderation.
Nota bene 2: Replies to messages in this list are by default sent to the poster, not to the list itself. Use reply-all in your email software to reply to the list and the poster. (This is a user-unfriendly setting for general lists, in some people's opinion, but this is by definition a list for the technically inclined.)
